Learn to Appreciate the Little Things
As I was perusing the internet today I started to think about my life and where it is going. I was on Reddit when I got this idea. I've never taken the time to appreciate the little things in my life that have made me who I am today. There are multiple websites that try to make people see this exact idea. It Gives Me Hope is a prime example. I was reading some of these entries and I could not help but be moved by some of them. It was at this moment I learned to appreciate the little things in life. I teared up a little as I read these heart wrenching stories. The post that really hit home for is attached below as an image.
As the website says, these stories truly do give me hope. I read the news today and I couldn't help but question some things that are going on. I couldn't help but think about how bad it really is in Japan and Libya. I realized how lucky I am to be where I am right now. As an Anthropology/ Sociology major, I tend to think about the world through a different lens. I worry about the families across the world that are being torn apart. I worry about the lives of women and children in areas in which the sound of bombs exploding are a daily occurrence. I worry about the hunger pains that echo across oceans. I worry about the elderly and the state of our economy.
The world needs to take a deeper look and question what is really going on here. Japan needs help; Libya need helps, and we all need to step up to plate. I include myself in this statement because every little bit means something. If you are in a country in which gun shots are rare and education is plentiful then you are among the luckiest in the world. It took me twenty years to realize just how lucky I am. So I know appreciate the little things. Join me in this endeavor, all we really need is to come together.
